This hasn't gotten much attention locally, but Erie is going to get a major economic burst this weekend as host of the All-American Cage Classic.
For those unfamiliar with the event (and I'm sure that would include most of you), the Cage Classic is a youth basketball tournament that draws more than 150 teams and 1,700 players for three days of hoops beginning Saturday.
And this isn't rec-league basketball. The tournament is expected to draw some huge college prospects and will undoubtedly be crawling with college and pro scouts who are eager to find the next LeBron (or should I say Dwyane Wade).
Family First is playing host to the event -- but with the number of teams involved, games will also be taking place at high school gyms throughout Erie.
Expect to see some famous names in town -- though the organizers won't say who.
You can also expect the anticipated 5,000 visitors to gobble up most of the local hotel rooms and seats at Peach Street restaurants.
That's good news for people like Nick Scott -- and for Erie's hospitality and restaurant industry.
