While Erie prepares to install its planned smoking ban in places such as restaurants, bars and bowling alleys, some other cities are pushing the smokefree limits much further.
Consider Bangor, Maine, which just made it illegal to smoke in cars if a child is riding as a passenger.
It's another victory for those who believe second-hand smoke is a dangerous weapon. I think it's a great idea -- though I wonder where we draw the line.
Do we extend it to include private residences where children are present? Probably a step too far -- though I do think those who smoke at home in the presence of their children are committing a selfish(and dangerous) act.
