Presidential primary, campaign cash

The date of the Pennsylvania presidential primary is still up in the air.

Before state lawmakers adjourned for their summer recess after a lengthy budget battle, only the House had approved moving up the primary to Feb. 12.

The Senate didn’t vote.

The issue could come up again when the lawmakers return to Harrisburg in September. But time is running out. Candidates in all races, not to mention county election offices, must meet pre-primary deadlines to pull off an earlier primary.

Of course, doing nothing means that our presidential primary, now scheduled for April 22, probably would be irrelevant. By then, the Democratic and Republican nominees likely will have been chosen.

Pennsylvania might be out of the loop, for now, but you can get your fix on presidential politics by visiting the Federal Election Commission’s Web site, www.fec.gov.

At the FEC’s site, you can see which presidential candidates are getting money from Pennsylvania residents, including those in the Erie County and Crawford County regions.

Click on the presidential campaign finance map, click on Pennsylvania, select a candidate from the box, and then click on the dot for the region you’re interested in.

Thus far, the candidates haven’t received much money from northwestern Pennsylvania.
