The presidential nominating process might be getting out of hand.
Now the Michigan Senate has agreed to move the state’s presidential primary to Jan. 15.
The change is not a done deal, because the Michigan House still must approve the early primary, the Associated Press reported.
But should it go through, Iowa and New Hampshire — traditionally the first states to start the presidential nominating season — could move up their dates to keep their one-two status. The AP even raised the possibility of primaries before New Year’s Day.
About a dozen other states had already pushed their primaries or caucuses up to Feb. 5.
At this rate, the primaries will be pushed up to Halloween.
As for Pennsylvania, it looks like we’ll be one of the last states to rubber-stamp what the other states have done for us.
Our presidential primary is still scheduled for April 22. The House agreed to move the date to Feb. 12, but the Senate has not acted.
