Comedian Stephen Colbert will not be on the ballot in the South Carolina primary after the Democratic Party denied his application.
Colbert isn’t the first comedian to test the presidential waters, however briefly. Remember Pat Paulsen?
And the host of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report’’ would have received votes, at least from some of South Carolina’s younger voters.
Don’t be surprised if he gets some write-in votes in the presidential primaries for South Carolina, Pennsylvania and other states.
After all, in the Nov. 6 municipal election in Erie County, somebody cast a write-in vote for “Mickey Mouse’’ and for “None of the Above, ’’ the election office reported. No one wrote in Colbert’s name -- yet.
Some people also wrote in their own names for minor offices, only to learn that they were the successful candidates because no one else was running. They’ll have to decline the office if they’re no longer interested.
