Mike Gravel's Web site

Mercyhurst College student Jil Staszewski e-mailed to voice her disappointment that I failed to include Democratic candidate Mike Gravel’s Web site among a grouping of presidential candidates’ sites in an Erie Times-News story about how candidates are using the Internet.

She’s right. I should have listed it. “Although Senator Gravel does not get nearly as much coverage as Democrat competitors Obama and Clinton, he is still in this race and deserves to be heard,’’ wrote Staszewski, 18, a freshman from Erie who’s majoring in psychology.

It’s refreshing to hear from a young voter who’s passionate about politics, especially after several Mercyhurst political-science majors told me recently that many students who aren’t studying politics could care less.

Gravel is no stranger to Washington, D.C. He represented Alaska in the U.S. Senate from 1969 to 1981.
