Rendell supports Clinton

Gov. Ed Rendell is supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.

Rendell, who would like to serve in a White House cabinet position some day, had better hope that Clinton wins. I don’t imagine that Barack Obama or John Edwards would be enthusiastic about appointing Rendell after he publicly endorsed Clinton.

Rendell told the Erie Times-News editorial board more than a year ago that he’d like to serve as U.S. energy secretary, which dovetails with his second-term push to make Pennsylvania a leading provider of alternative energy. Rendell has said he would serve out his second term, which means he’d remain in Harrisburg through 2010.

Then again, we know of a certain other governor from Erie who left office early when a president called.
