From Ripley and Westfield

Photographer Janet Campbell and I just returned from Ripley and Westfield, N.Y., where we spoke to voters about New York’s participation in Super Tuesday.

A lot of Democrats are favoring Hillary Rodham Clinton, at least in our sampling of voters. Republican voters are more mixed, with support being shared among John McCain, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney.

It looks like Clinton will win her home state today, though Barack Obama is trying to win as many delegates as possible. McCain is expected to win on the GOP side in New York.

Some voters in Ripley and Westfield were surprised to learn the polls in Chautauqua County didn’t open until noon. Actually, we were surprised too. What gives?

We’re used to Pennsylvania’s polling hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., which is a lot more convenient. The polls in Chautauqua County close at 9 p.m.
