Clinton promised that his wife, if nominated and elected, would not forget "the look in (voter's) eyes right now."
He said that as president it's easy for a person to forget their dedication to the people and get caught up in the pomp and circumstance.
"They play a song every time you walk into a room," he joked. "I was lost the first three months after I was out of office because they didn't play a song."
He shifted to a more serious note and shared an anecdote about his wife as a defender of rights for survivors of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.
He said that Hillary Clinton would never forget that the president is "nothing more than a hired hand."
"You need somebody you know will have your back in the White House," he said.
