I just spoke with Richard Hornstein, director of the election board in Ashtabula County, and asked about turnout today.
“It looks like it’s been extremely high,’’ Hornstein said. He guessed turnout at 50 percent — high for a primary — and the polls don’t close until 7:30 p.m.
A total of 61,307 people are registered to vote in the county, the first one that Pennsylvanians enter when they cross the Ohio line from Erie County.
The county uses paper ballots, and judges of elections in some precincts have called for more ballots, he said.
Just about everyone that I approached Friday in Ashtabula had plenty to say about the presidential primary, so it doesn’t surprise me that turnout is high.
