Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell talks politics with Erie Times-News political reporter John Guerriero on May 29 at the Martin Luther King Center in Erie. CHRISTOPHER MILLETTE/Erie Times-News

I spoke with Gov. Ed Rendell today for about 15 minutes on presidential and vice presidential politics. He all but ruled himself out as a vice presidential candidate.

But Rendell acknowledged that if Sen. Barack Obama pressed him, he would try to convince him otherwise. "If I couldn't talk him out of it, that would be difficult. But I think I could talk him out of it,'' Rendell said.

This is all speculation anyway, of course. But that's what this stage of the nominating process is all about -- speculation about the No. 2 on the ticket.

Listen to the full interview here.
