Kennedy diagnosed with brain tumor

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts is a courageous and tenacious fighter. That was the reaction from Democrats and Republicans alike to the news that the liberal icon has been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor.

I heard Kennedy’s fighting spirit first-hand during a phone interview April 4 and then saw it again when he campaigned in Erie on April 14. Both times he stumped for Sen. Barack Obama, who is closing in on the Democratic nomination for president.

Kennedy is 76 and has suffered from chronic back problems since a plane crash in 1964. But his booming, familiar voice at two Erie rallies showed he still has the right stuff to stir a crowd.

Listen here to the audio of my phone interview with Kennedy.

Also, watch our video of his visit.
