Students to participate in congressional debate

High school students will question Republican U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie and the two challengers for his 3rd District seat at a debate in September.

English and his opponents, Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper of Erie and independent Steven Porter of Wattsburg, have agreed to debate at Corry Area High School Sept. 29 at 1 p.m., said James Wojcicehowski, adviser to the Corry High School History Club.

The candidates will face each other in the Nov. 4 general election.

Forty-five high schools in the 3rd District have been invited to participate in the debate. Fort LeBoeuf, McDowell, Mercyhurst, Sharpsville and Slippery Rock have signed up so far.
