Campaign offices opening

Sen. Barack Obama's Erie campaign headquarters opens tonight at 6 p.m. It's one of 29 headquarters that will open across Pennsylvania tonight for the Democratic nominee-in-waiting.

Erie County Executive Mark DiVecchio and Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott will speak at tonight's grand opening.

The headquarters at 25 E. 10th St. should look familiar. The Obama camp rented out the same office -- a former pizza and sandwich shop near Jerry Uht Park -- in the spring primary.

Meanwhile, the local campaign headquarters for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain will officially open Aug. 23 at 10:30 a.m. It's on the west end of Union Station, W. 14th and Sassafras streets.

It's also the campaign headquarters for the Erie County Republican Party, state Sen. Jane Earll of Fairview and U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie.

The offices are open now, but the grand openings mark the official kick-off of the local campaigns.

The events are open to the public.
