Clinton's convention speech

The first day of the Democratic National Convention was a warm and fuzzy affair.

Ailing Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., issued a call for Democrats to rally behind Sen. Barack Obama's candidacy.

And Michelle Obama capped the night with an endorsement of her husband as part of a family themed speech.

Look for the Democrats to go more on the offensive against Sen. John McCain and the GOP.

But first, the Democratic divide between supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Obama must close. Clinton's speech tonight -- sure to be carefully analyzed -- could go a long way toward that end.
