Interesting developments over the weekend as the deadline approaches for the candidates to pick their VP candidates.
Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, believed to be on Sen. John McCain's short list, would seem to be at a disadvantage because of Ridge's support of abortion rights.
McCain opposes abortion rights, and the conservative wing of the party isn't happy about Ridge being in the mix.
But Ridge, appearing on "Fox News Sunday,'' said that whomever the Republican nominee-in-waiting chooses for No. 2 should defer to McCain on the issue.
"The last time I checked, the vice president is not an independent voice. He echoes the position of the president of the United States,'' Ridge said on the news show.
As for Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, speculation continues to focus on Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, chairman of the chamber's Foreign Relations Committee.
The thinking is that Obama needs someone with foreign policy experience -- though there are other top candidates with that resume.
But Biden's two-day trip overseas to Georgia only ramps ups the speculation.
One thing for sure -- time is running out for them to choose.
The Democratic convention starts next Monday and the Republican convention begins Sept. 1.
