Big sign of the times

Mel Daughenbaugh, of Edinboro, gets into his SUV after picking up a 4 x 8 foot McCain/Palin sign from the McCain headquarters in Union Station on Oct. 6. JANET B. CAMPBELL/Erie Times-News

Edinboro resident Mel Daughenbaugh has an answer for whomever is taking his standard-sized John McCain yard signs.

He stopped by the McCain headquarters at Union Station to pick up a bigger sign -- one that is 4 feet by 8 feet.

The sign is so big that Jon Hopcraft, northwestern Pennsylvania field coordinator for the McCain campaign, had to help Daughenbaugh load it into his Ford Explorer.

But Daughenbaugh, 67, a retired hotel general manager, said isn't taking any chances with the large sign. He will take it into his garage every night.
