In a postscript to the presidential election, President-elect Barack Obama fared better among rural voters in battleground states such as Iowa, Ohio and Virginia than Sen. John Kerry did four years ago.
Obama lost the rural vote in those states by 7 percentage points, according to dailyyonder.com. Kerry lost those states by 15 percentage points in 2004, the Web site reported.
Nationally, Sen. John McCain won all rural counties by 13 percentage points, dailyyonder.com reported.
The rural vote was one of the voting bloc stories that the Erie Times-News covered in the run-up to the election.
