Super No. 7, Ozzy, Wilco, meet the "Candyman"

Super No. 7 fans will get their last chance to see their favorite band in action for awhile when they play Billies at the Avalon Hotel tonight.

The band -- which will play unplugged -- will concentrate on finishing its next CD, which it's recording in Cleveland. They likely won't play out again for awhile.

For tonight's show, Super No. 7 will be joined by special guests Al Donati of Years from Yesterday, and keyboard player Trevor Huster.

Both Super No. 7 and Huster came up big at the RockErie Music Awards. Super No. 7 won for favorite rock band, and Huster -- who did a great job running the house band -- won for favorite keyboard player.

For more, see www.myspace.com/superno7, where you can also hear a few demo tracks from the forthcoming new CD.

Tullio Arena on late Friday announced a new show -- Christian superstar Michael W. Smith with the Erie Philharmonic on Dec. 2.
They'll present "It's a A Wonderful Christmas" show at the Tullio Arena, with guest stars the Katinas and former "American Idol" contestant Melinda Doolitte.
Ticket prices were not disclosed but tickets will go on sale Sept. 17.

Tickets are $5 at the door, or in advance at the mall. Todd met with Erie officials on Friday about shooting "Eerie, Pa" -- a screenplay set in Erie -- here, perhaps as early as next spring.

Erie's WCTL-FM (106.3) is bringing Phillips, Craig & Dean to First Assembly of God, as part of the church's 40th birthday celebration. The concert is set for Oct. 4 at the church. WCTL will also hold its annual Fall 2007 Sharathon during that week, from Oct. 1-3.

Buddy Holly fans are in there glory these days, and not just because Matty B and the Dirty Pickles are starring in "Buddy Holly: The Day the Music Died" at the Roadhouse Theatre.

Brian Best, one of the the best Holly tribute performers in the U.S., will soon return to the area for a pair of show as Hollydaze. He'll perform at the Albion Area Fair on Sept. 15 at 4 p.m.
Best will also perform at a September to Remember concert on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Wattsburg Erie County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $10 per person, or $18 per couple, which includes food and pop. Call 725-2606 or (814) 739-2116 for tickets.

Springsteen goes clean; Monahan in Erie?

That didn't take long.
Tickets for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's Pittsburgh concert at Mellon Arena went on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Shortly after 1 p.m., Live Nation sent an email, advising it's sold out.

If you missed out, you get one more chance to see them: They play Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena on Nov. 4 Those tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster.

Check Monday's Times-News for a Newsmaker interview with Erie's Pat Monahan, who releases his first solo CD, "Last of Seven," on Tuesday. Dr. Rock also reviews the CD.

Monahan said he always asks for Erie to be included on his itinerary but the first leg doesn't include us -- just Cleveland on Oct. 20. However, Monahan said something about Erie will havie to wait until January. So, a date may be in the works but right now nothing is confirmed -- that is all preliminary.

The Cure, curiously enough, have already announced the itinerary for their summer 2008 tour. The only area stop will be in Cleveland on June 18 at a venue to be announced.

Buffalo's HSBC Arena will welcome Keith Urban and Gary Allan on Nov. 10. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 21 at tickets.com.

The notes pile

Guns n' Roses keyboardist Dizzy Reed will jam with Erie hard-rock metal band Hammerd at the Great Lakes Independent Film Festival's after party on Sept. 29. Following the debut of Len Kabasinski's "Fist of the Vampire," Reed will join forces with Hammerd on Guns n' Roses classics, plus some Rolling Stones and other bands.
Better take a nap that day, though. The music won't start until around 2 a.m. Admission is $10 for the film and show, combined, or just $10 if you come out late for the concert.

Tokyo Rose canceled the last 2 weeks of its tour, including Monday's show with the Actual at Forward Hall. That doesn't mean Monday will be without music at the hall, however. Another Found Self will headline a bill with several other local bands.

Jr.'s Last Laugh will welcome Jim Dailakis -- a frequent "Bob & Tom Show" guest -- from Dec. 13-15. He's known for doing killer impressions, especially Kramer from "Seinfeld."

Punk legends Anti-Flag will play Dec. 17 at Perry Hi-Way Hose Company. Special guests are Bomb The Music Industr!y, the Code, and Hank Jones. See www.erieshows.com for more details.

Rock hall notes, no Led Zep tour

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has released the list of guests for its Whole Lotta Shakin' American Masters concert tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis.

Guests will include Wanda Jackson, Kris Kristofferson, George Thorogood, Shelby Lynne, Terry Adams from NRBQ, Narvel Felts, Billy Lee Riley, Cowboy Jack Clement, Jason D. Williams and Lewis’s cousin the Reverend Jimmy Swaggart on piano. The program will also feature Lewis' sister Linda Gail Lewis. Of course, Jerry Lee Lewis will also play
The concert is set for Nov. 10 at State Theater in Cleveland. Tickets are on sale at www.tickets.com.

On Friday, the rock hall also released the nine nominees for the class of 2008. They include Madonna, Beastie Boys, Chic, Ventures, Dave Clark Five, John Mellencamp, Donna Summer, Leonard Cohen, and Afrika Bambattaa.

The five inductees will be announced in January. You have to figure Madonna and Beastie Boys are probably stone-cold locks. If I had to fathom a guess, I'd say the other three will be Dave Clark Five, who nearly made it last year, Mellencamp, and either the Ventures or Summer.

Early reviews for "Magic" by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band began showing up Friday and nearly every one is a flat-out rave. "Entertainment Weekly" gave it an A. Reviewers agree this disc more naturally captures the E Street Sound than "The Rising" did, and it has more of a raw, bristling edge to it, as well.

Rolling Stone online quotes Robert Plant as saying there will be no Led Zeppelin tour after their reunion show in London in November. So much for that.
