Plant/Krauss to Cleveland; 3EB eyes sellout

Good news for rock fans who are enamored by "Raising Sand," the surprise hit collaboration between Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant and bluegrass star Alison Krauss.
They will play Cleveland, after all.
With a band led by T Bone Burnett, Plant & Krauss will play Time Warner Cable Amphtiheatre at Tower City on July 15. According to a press release, the duo will play songs from "Raising Sand" and a few selections from their own respective discographies. Presumably that means Plant will play a Led Zep song or two.
Tickets are $89.50 and $59.50 reserved, with $25 general admission tickets. They go on sale April 18 at Ticketmaster.

Edinboro University added a new concert late Thursday: Rapper Tone Loc. Best known for the hits "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina," Tone Loc will perforom April 19 at Edinboro's COle Auditorium of Memorial Hall. Tickets are just $5, on sale now at www.edinborotickets.com.

Friday's Third Eye Blind concert at Penn State Behrend was nearing a sellout at presstime. More than 2,000 tickets were sold so far, confirming what lead singer Stephan Jenkins says -- they've become one of the top requested bands at college. If any tickets remain, they will be available at the door. They're just $20.

Biilboard reports that Scott Weiland and Velvet Revolver have parted ways. They've exchanged heated barbs since Weiland told a Scottish audience that the show would be their last. VR plans to continue on after finding a new singer. Weiland has already reconnected with his former band, Stone Temple Pilots, for shows this summer.

Presque Isle Downs & Casino has yet to release its summer concert series. But Pollstar is posting dates for the Grass Roots starring Rob Grill (June 26) and jazz singer Diane Schuur (Aug. 15).

8 Great Tuesdays has not unveiled its lineup, either, but again Pollstar is revealing two shows: Lil Brian and the Travelers (July 8), which would be the kickof,) and Commander Cody on Aug. 26, which would be the last show.

Billboard reports LInkin Park's Projekt Revolution tour will hit 24 North Americain cities this summer. The lineup will include Chris Cornell and the Bravery, plus a second stage with Atreyu, 10 Years, Hawthorne Heights, and Armor for Sleep.

Dates have yet to be announced.

When Brooks & Dunn play Pittsburgh's Post-Gazette Pavilion on Sept. 12, their special guests will include ZZ Top and Rodney Atkins. Strange to see ZZ Top take a supporting slot like that; they're rock and roll hall of famers.

Projekt Revolution dates; comedy coming to Playhouse

Dates are out for LInkin Park's Projekt Revolution tour. It will stop at Post-Gazette Pavilion near Pittsburgh on July 18 and Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga, Falls, Ohio on Aug. 19.
Tickets for select dates go on sale April 11. Check Thursday's Showcase to see if the Blossom and PG shows will go up then, as well.

One day after listing a date for jazz singer Diane Schuur at Presque Isle Downs & Casino for Aug. 15, Pollstar removed it. In its place: a show with Sha Na Na for Aug. 15. That one makes sense. Ted Arneault, the chairman of MTR Gaming Group, had mentioned the casino was considering Sha Na Na for it summer series during a press conference in late February.

A big comedy show takes place next weekend iin Erie. The Three Poles Walk Into a Bar Comedy Tour will open its national swing April 11-12 at the Erie Playhouse.
Bob "The Polish Madman" Golub has not only appeared in top clubs around the country but several films, including "Goodfellas." Diane NIchols has appeared on "The Tonight Show" with both Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, as well as on "Late Show with David Letterman." Then there's Michael Stankiewicz -- an Erie native, who also tours nationally and rarely performs in his hometown.
Playing up the "Polish" part of the show, look for live music, too, by Grammy-nominated perfomer Kevin Solecki, as well as free samples of Polish food, including pierogis and kielbasa.

Tickets are $20, plus tax. That's a pretty good deal, considering this show essentially features three headliners. They're on sale at the Playhouse box office, 454-2852. This show features R-rated language.

8 Great Tuesdays, Presque Isle lineups; Foreigner, more

After a week of vacation -- and a crazy first half of this week -- the Doctor is back, ready to blog his brains out.

First up: The final lineup for 8 Great Tuesdays, at least the headliners. The 2008 season isn't heavy on big names but it will still offer lots of quality music.
First up: A zydeco party, headlined by Lil' Briain and the Zydeco Travelers on July 8.
The following week brings the great, roots band Donna the Buffalo on July 15. They're one of my favorites, and they've played Erie many times, including Forward Hall and CelebrateErie. How great to have them as part of 8 Great Tuesdays.
Blues great Bernard Allison will perform on July 22. He's the son of Luther Allison, and his band includes former Erie bassist Jassen Wilber, who played with Jake's Blues. Speaking of Jake, Jake's Blues will headline on July 29.
Singer/songwriter Leon Russell will perform on Aug. 5. Though best known for 1972's "Carny," he also played with a Who's Who of musicians, including Joe Cocker. Pittsburgh's great blues-rockers Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers arrive on Aug. 12. Grushecky's long career was recently featured in a documentary that included one of his best friends, Bruce Springsteen. Bruce always invites Joe on stage with him when he plays PIttsburgh.
Hey, Joe: How about inviting Bruce by for your Erie gig?
Dave Stevens Big Band headlines on Aug. 19. The series ends with boogie rockers Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen.

Opening acts are still to be announced.

Edinboro's Downtown Art and Music Festival had hoped to add Donna the Buffalo to its lineup in May. That didn't happen but the event will feature Jeb Puryear -- one of Donna's main songwriters and singers -- performing with Hank Roberts. Puryear released his solo debut earlier this year, so this will be a chance to experience his solo music.

The event, set for May 15-17, also features Big Leg Emma, Gypsy Dave and the Stumpjumpers, the Woodticks and plenty more.

Presque Isle State Park has finalized its Sprint Sunset Music series, which features live artists on Beach 1 on six successive Wednesdays.
Performers will include: Duke Sherman Blues Band (june 11); Abbey Road and String Theory (June 18); Sam Hyman Band (June 25); Tennessee Back Porch and the Hubcaps (July 2); Key West Express (July 9); and Soul Session, from Albany, N.Y., on July 16.

So, Celebrate Erie has announced Foreigner will be its big headliner. That'd be better news if Lou Gramm -- who sang all their hits -- was still with the band. But he left in 2003 to front his own band, leaving vocal duties to former Hurricane front man Kelly Hansen.
On the plus side, Mick Jones remains Foreigner's lead guitarist and their drummer is Jason Bonham, the son of Led Zep's John Bonham. Of course, Jason recently filled in for his late dad on Zep's big reunion show.

Foreigner plays Celebrate Erie on Aug. 16.

Look for Presque Isle Downs & Casino to announce its summer concert series next week. If Internet web sites are to be believed, however, we already know at least 3 of them -- Grass Roots with Rob Grill (June 26), Donnie Iris and the Cruisers (July 24), and Sha Na Na (Aug. 15).. All will be free with Player's Club memberships. Those memberships are free.

The Erie Summer Festival of the Arts has yet to announce any headliners, though we're fast approaching the end of June. We hear negotiations have taken place with the Zappa Plays Zappa tribute show however that's far from a sure thing. Rolling Stone just declared Zappa Plays Zappa the best tribute show in rock. The group includes Erie native Joe Travers on drums. ZPZ was set for the Warner last summer but was canceled due to slow advance sales. I think they'd draw a huge crowd at a free outdoor festival.

OneRepublic singer Ryan Tedder blew out an Achilles tendon over the weekend, forcing the band to pull out of Tuesday's Crocs Next Step Campus Tour concert at Gannon University.
