Tina on tour; new Train coming; Beatles Pops' concert

So, Tina Turner -- Ms. Private Dancer -- has had enough privacy. She's coming out of retirement for a U.S. tour.

We shouldn't be surprised. Remember, she bounded on stage at the Grammy Awards in February for an extended medley with Beyonce. Just as the Police used the Grammy celebration to mount a comeback tour, so will Tina. Dates have not been announced yet but will roll out soon; she told "Orpah" that the shows will go on sale May 12.
A new studio set is on the way from Tina, too. Erie's Pat Monahan co-wrote several songs for it, though we don't know for sure yet if any or all of them made the final cut for the album.

Erie Philharmonic Pops will celebrate the Beatles on May 10 at the Warner Theatre. But if you want to show how Fab you are, you can sign up for a Beatles' karaoke contest at the Oasis on Wednesday, May 8. Registration starts at 7 p.m., with the contest beginning at 8 p.m.
The karaoke winner will be recognized at the Pops' concert.
So, pick your favorite Beatles' song, then get out there and shine like Lucy in the sky with diamonds.

Pat Monahan's web site report a new Train CD will be released late this year. In the meantime, he will tour again for his solo CD, "Last of Seven." An Erie date could be in the works but nothing is certain, yet.

Coldplay to Cleveland, Tony Bennett to Buffalo

Coldplay released its U.S. itinerary on Friday, and it includes just one area show -- July 6 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
Tickets will go on sale May 17 at Ticketmaster, according to Coldplay's web site. Billboard reports tickets will be in the $50 to $85 range.

A Celebrity Dress Preview benefit event will feature dresses owned and worn by such celebrities as Beyonce, Martina McBride, Patti LaBelle, Raven Symone, Amy Grant, and more on Jun 1 from 12:30-3 p.m.at Lake Shore Country Club.
You can see the dresses before they move onto Los Angeles for a live on-line fashion show auction in the fall.
Pete McDaniel, a senior writer at Golf Digest Magazine, will speak at the event. He also co-wrote "Training a Tiger" with Tiger's late father Earl Woods. He'll also auction off four original Tiger Woods' autographed photos from Tiger's 2007 PGA victory.
The event benefits My Father's House of Erie, a non-profit program that helps homeless and abused women and their children. Tickets are $35 per person, or $50 per couple. They are available at Bella Designs, 4801 Peach St., a retail store operated by the group that helps the women learn vocational skills and work experience.
Tickets are also available at National City Bank, 801 State St. and all GE Federal Credit Union branches. You can call 879-0880 for more information.

If you haven't heard yet, Nine Inch Nails has a new work, "The Slip," available as a download, totally for free, at its web site, www.nin.com. That's right: The entire thing is free, courtesy of Trent Reznor, who's saluting NIN's fans for their continued faith and support through the years. It includes "Discipline," the track released to radio a few weeks ago.

Conneaut Lake Park may be gone but the community's love of oldies over Memorial Day weekend will never die.
Johnny Angel and the Halos will headline a cocnert on May 24 at 8 p.m. at the Staple Pit & Pub. Opening up will be Jim Felix as Elvis.
Tickets are $15, available at (814) 382-8777.

Good news; Madonna and Tina Turner are touring. Bad news: They don't play anywhere around here, except for Toronto. Madonna plays the Air Canada Centre on Oct. 18; Tina checks in there Nov. 13.

We also have no area dates for tours by My Morning Jacket, Sweet, the John Mellencamp/Lucinda Williams tour, or Lynryd Skynyrd/Kid Rock co-headling tour. Seems like more and more big tours skip the tri-state region.

Tony Bennett will playan intimate concert at the University of Buffalo's Center for the Arts on Dec. 12. Proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House. They go on sale May 19 at Ticketmaster.

New Pittsburgh festival; "Shine a Light" shines

American Eagle Outfitters announced today it will mount a new, two-day musical festival at Pittsburgh's South SideWorks on Aug. 8-9.
Headliners include Bob Dylan and His Band, the Raconteurs, Gnarls Barkley, the Roots, Spoon, the Black Keys, Black Mountain, the Duke Spirit, NASA, nd Tiny Masters of Today.
About a dozen bands from assorted college towns throughout the country will also play. The festival will be hosted by Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers, who also put together the lineup.
General admission tickets are $49.50 for the festival, but students will pay just $25. They will go on sale Friday at ticketmaster.com and livenation.com.

If you haven't seen the Rolling Stones' concert film "Shine a Light" yet, make sure you get to the Plaza Cinemas and catch it.
It's fantasic, unlike any concert film you've ever seen. Director Martin Scorsese hired a staggering team of cinematographers and cameramen, giving you an experience that makes you feel like part of the show, if not on stage most the time.
You see the knowing glances and exchanges between musicians, you see every crevice in Mick Jagger's face, and you hear every guitar solo because each one is cranked up in the mix.
The concert was filmed at New York's Beacon Theatre, and the intimate feel adds to the energy of the film. Scorsese's flowing direction also ups the ante: The film is wildly exciting to experience -- especially if you don't know the set list going in. The Stones pull out a few surprises, and the guests -- especially Buddy Guy -- really add to the night.
This was so good, I'm going again.

3 Doors Down to Pittsburgh; Tony Krasinski returns

3 Doors Down, Hinder, and Finger Eleven will team up Sept. 7 at Post-Gazette Pavilion near Pittsburgh.
Tickets will go on sale on May 31 at Ticketmaster.

Don't know if you've seen it but you have to love the new Weezer video for "Pork & Beans," which features all sorts of notorious YouTube "celebrities." The song is also as catchy as anything they've ever done and bodes well for the next "Weezer" CD on June 3.

Associated Press reports that Madonna will travel to Traverse City, Mich. on Aug. 2 to attend a screening of her film "I Am Because We Are." She's a fan of Michael Moore, and Moore is the organizer of the film festival that takes place in her home state. The film shows the crippling effects of poverty in southern Africa, and the toll that AIDS is taking. Madonna, who adopted an African child, produced the movie and also narrates it.

Tony Krasinski, an Erie music legend who played with the Bedrocks, then the Shrugs, is joining another band. He'll become a part of Joe Rockhead, which also features his brother Dave on guitar, as well as his cousin Rick. Tony will play bass in the band that plays classic rock by Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Kansas, and more. The group also includes veteran Erie musician Jack Campbell.
Tony Krasinski's first gig with Joe Rockhead will be June 6 at Scooters.
