AC/DC unveiled its North American tour itinerary to Billboard magazine, and it doesn't hold good news for area fans.
The tour opens in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., of all places, on Oct. 28 then jumps to Chicago. The closest Erie dates are in Toronto (Nov. 7) and Columbus, Ohio (Nov. 21.) Right now, no dates are listed for Pittsburgh, Cleveland, or Buffalo.
Hopefully a second leg in 2009 will come a little closer but there's no mention of additional U.S. dates in the Billboard story.
Tickets for the U.S. leg start going on sale Sept. 20, acccording to Billboard. Check out AC/DC.com for more details.
According to the Associated Press, Yes will go on tour, but no, it won't include singer Jon Anderson, who is recovering from acute respiratory failure. Instead, the band has hired an Anderson sound-a-like it discovered through YouTube. Benoit David sings in Close to the Edge, a Montreal-based Yes tribute band.
The tour will open in Ontario, Can. on Nov. 4, according to the AP. No other dates were disclosed. It'd be cool if Erie were included on the itinerary, but we haven't had many rock shows lately. Some other bands on the road -- like R.E.M., B-52s, Pretenders -- would be a nice fit for Erie, too. They're not at their peak but have never played here, so they'd likely do well.
But right now, no rock shows are on the docket -- just Sugarland, and later Jason Aldean, which has yet to be confirmed by the civic center.
Mushroomhead roars back into Sherlock's on Oct. 5; tickets will be $15 at the door.
That's shaping up to be heavy rock Sunday for Erie. Dirty Looks, Harpo, and French Maide also play the Warner Theatre that night, while Between the Buried and Me plays Forward Hall.
About a week after reports first surfaced of a Grateful Dead reunion show, with Allman Brothers opening up, in support of Barack Obama, there is still no confirmation that'll happen. Dead.net isn't listing it; neither is Ticketmaster nor Bryce Jordan Center. But if it's going to happen -- the rumored date is Oct. 13-- tickets will likely go on sale soon. Your best bet is to keep checking dead.net, the Dead's official web site, for updates.
Post-Gazette Pavilion sent word this morning (Thursday) that the Brooks & Dunn/ZZ Top show scheduled Friday has been postponed. PG says fans should hold onto their tickets and await further information, presumably for a rescheduled date.
Two new shows for Buffalo were announced after the regular Showcase deadline. From the Jam -- which features former Jam members Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler (but not Paul Weller) --- will play Town Ballroom on Oct. 2. And Ani DiFranco will close her fall tour in her hometown on Nov. 29 at Asbury Hall at Babeville. Tickets go on sale Friday at noon at tickets.com.
Punchline will play a CD release party for "Just Say Yes" at the Hangout in Edinboro on Oct. 11. Opening up -- and playing their last show -- will be Stillframe Sky. See erieshows.com for more info.
