Veteran rapper KRS-One -- widely considered of the best MCs of all time -- will play Erie's Forward Hall on Oct. 9.
Lawrence Krishina Parker -- aka KRS-One -- started the acclaimed Boogie Down Productions in the late 1980s, issuing such landmark works as "By All Means Necessary" (1988) and "Ghetto Music: The Blueprint of Hip-Hop" (1989).
He went solo in the 1990s, making plenty of noise with 1997's "I Got Next," which included a sample of Blonde's "Rapture" on "Step Into a World," and hit No. 3 on the Billboard album chart.
MTV's 2007 list of all-time greats MCs ranked KRS-One at No. 6 -- ahead of Big Daddy Kane, Ice Cube, Eminem, and LL Cool J. (For the record, Jay-Z was No. 1).
"KRS could go from dropping indisputable science that elevated the masses to crushing any "sucka MC" who stepped his way," the MTV piece states. "And on stage, who could compete with him? Besides Busta Rhymes, he may be the best live performer ever."
Opening acts will include R-Gav, Zeek Diamond, BlackBox, Young Millz, Profound, and FInity. Sikk Caden will host. Tickets are $20 advance, available at Ink Assassins. They[ll be $22 at the door.
Run-D.M.C. could be the next hip-hop act inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. The hall's new list of nominees includes nine artists, including Run-D.M.C., likely shoo-in Metallica, the Stooges, guitarist Jeff Beck, War, Bobby Womack, Chic, Little Anthony and the Imperials, and Wanda Jackson.
The five new inductees will be named in January, with the induction ceremony slated for April 4, 2009 in Cleveland -- the first time it will be held there in more than a decade.
I'm not good at predicting this stuff but my guess for the final five: Run-D.M.C., Metallica, the Stooges, Chic, and Beck.
This just in: The Eagles have added a Nov. 21 show at Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 29, according to the Eagles' web site.
