Jay-Z in Cleveland for Obama; dueling Rockys in Erie

Hip-hop superstar Jay-Z will play a free concert at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena on Oct. 29, joined by Cleveland Cavs' superstar Lebron James. It's billed as a Last Chance for Change concert to rally Barack Obama supporters.
Though the show is free, there is a catch: You must have a valid Ohio drivers license or ID to get tickets. Guess that leaves out Pennsylvanians. The polls show a tighter race in Ohio than Pennsylvania, where Obama -- last time I checked -- held a 10-point lead in the polls.

Look for dueling "Rocky Horror" productions next weekend in Erie
Rick DiBello and Alethea Bodine will mount pretty much the full stage musical at the Erie Playhouse on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 9 p.m. DiBello has served as music director and guitarist for more than 80 "Rocky Horror" shows -- most at the Roadhouse -- since 1992. Bodine has choreographed every production since 1998.
Alex Bolla returns as Dr. Frank-N-Furter; he's played the role every year since 2004. The cast also includes Ryan Dawley as Brad and Kayla McGhee as Janet, who are also both "Rocky" veterans.
The excellent Pink Bombers will again supply the live music, and popcorn girls will be on hand to lead the clever call outs. Pink Bombers will also release "Don't Dream It, Be It," a CD with the "Rocky Horror" score. That'll be available for $10 at both performances.
Goody bags will be available; don't bring your own.
John Johnston, formerly of Telefonics, will also debut his new band Jimmy James and the Absolutes following the Friday night show.
Tickets are $15 for "Rocky Horror Show." Call the Playhouse at 454-2852 for more details.

Theatre 145 will take a different approach for its "Rocky Horror Picture Show" night on Oct. 31. The movie will be shown on a screen off to the right of the stage. For musical parts, the sound will be muted while performers -- including Sarah Haines as Dr. Frank-N-Furter -- perform them live on stage. You can bring the usual goodies -- newspapers, lighters, playing cards, etc -- but no food items such as hot dogs or rice.
Tickets are $10 or $15 VIP.

After the show, Theatre 145 will host a free concert with Freak Tent, Kill People, Otis, Midnight Jacks, Sound City Saints, and Mystic Flotation Device. Between acts, Piano Dave and Terry English will play in the theater's back room so there's not a minute without music. The whole thing will last until 5 a.m. or later.

The music will start immediately following "Rocky Horror Picture Show," at about 10 p.m.
