New shows for Erie, On the Rocks to debut

Legendary Motown group the Temptations will return to Erie for a show at the Warner Theatre on Feb. 13 -- a day before Valentine's Day.
Hey, seeing the Tempts might be more romantic than buying a dozen roses.
Tickets are $45 and $40, with gold circle ($50) also available. They go on sale Oct. 24 at Tullio Arena box office, Ticketmaster outlets, and by phone at 452-4857.

Speaking of Tempts, how sad to learn that Levi Stubbs -- the soulful, powerful voice of the Four Tops for so long -- died today. For years, the Tempts and the Tops toured together; it was a Motown package made in heaven. I'm going to play "Reach Out, I'll Be There" when I get home, in memoriam.

Chris Sligh, a finalist during season six of "American Idol," will perform at Forward Hall on Nov. 13. Tickets will be $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
Sligh's debut "Running Back to You" was released in May, though he's nearly as famous for telling off Simon Cowell.

Foo Fighters will release "Live at Wembley Stadium," an 18-song DVD and Blu-Ray document of their two Wembley Stadium shows that drew more than 160,000 fans. Tge set includes classics such as "Everlong," "All My Life," and "Times Like These," as well as "Marigold," a Nirvana B-side that Dave Grohl wrote.

Folk icon Judy Collins is on tour to support not her own CD but "Born to Breed," a tribute CD to her. Chrssie Hynde, Dolly Parton, Leonard Cohen, and others appear on the CD.
Collins is also on tour with stops at the Tralf in Buffalo on Dec. 4 and the Bromely Family Theatre in Bradford, Pa., on Feb. 5.

On the Rocks opens Oct. 24 with One World Tribe. It's located at the site of the former the Club, 3040 W. Lake Road. The new club will feature live music every Friday with an emphasis on variety -- country, rock, funk, etc. Other nights will feature DJs, and the atmosphere will resemble an ultra-lounge with couches, bottle service, and 20 martinis on the menu.
Look for more on this in the Oct. 23 Showcase.

Get this: The Grammy nominations will be announced during a live TV broadcast on Dec. 3, instead of the usual early-morning press conference. Naturally, the show will feature live music, as well, from assorted guests, including past winners. Still, with 100-plus categories, how many will they actually announce on the air?

Anxious to see Sugarland, Ashton Shepherd, and Kellie Pickler tomorrow night? You better hurry if you don't have tickets. Only scattered single seats remain for the concert at Tullio Arena. Fortunately, another country show is just around the corner --CMT on Tour 2008 with Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum on Nov. 15 at the Warner Theatre. On-sale date is still to be announced.

Rolling Stone reports that Guns n' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" will definitely be released on Nov. 23, a Sunday, at Best Buy locations only. The online version will be available through iTunes and Best Buy. A tour will follow, says Rolling Stone.

Also, it looks like Eminem will re-surface with "Relapse" -- his first studio set since 2004 -- either late this year or in early 2009, according to Rolling Stone.
