Legendary metal band Metallica, guitarist Jeff Beck, rap pioneers Run-D.M.C., R&B greats Little Anthony & The Imperials, and soul singer Bobby Womack will be inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame in April, the organization announced today.
Also, Wanda Jackson will be enshrined as an early influence, while Bill Black, D.J. Fontana, and Spooner Oldham made the cut in the relatively new sideman category.
The ceremony will be held at Cleveland's Public Hall on April 4. Museum members can buy tickets (priced at $75 and $35) on Jan. 22 and 23 by calling (216) 515-1999 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A public pre-sale is set for Jan. 24 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum box office. Tickets will also be available Jan. 26 through Ticketmaster and by phone at (800) 745-3000. A two-ticket limit will be enforced on all orders.
Presenters and performers will be announced later, but the hall usually snags some mighty big names.
The induction ceremony will also be televised live on cable network FUSE.
As for who didn't make it this time: The Stooges, Chic, and War.
Movie buffs are excited: Tinseltown has installed a 3D screen that'll debut with "My Bloody Valentine" this weekend. See Friday's Weekender in Erie Times-News for more information.
Also, since press time for Showcase, the huge "We Are One: The OBama INaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial" concert that HBO will televise on Sunday has added U2 to the lineup. Originally, just Bono was announced as a performer.
The show also features Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Will.i.am, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, and more. You needn't be an HBO subscriber to see it; it'll be free if you have cable or satellite TV.
