The winning band gets $1,000, a Rolling Rock sponsorship, beer for a year, and a future Saturday show at Sherlock's.

Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood announced a short summer tour on Thursday. Unfortunately, there is no area date. The closest they'll come is Columbus, Ohio, on June 15.

Ozzy Osbourne confirmed this week that there will be no OzzFest in 2009. He plans to complete a new CD, instead. OzzFest had only one date in 2008. Presuming it returns in 2010 -- he has to hype that new album, right -- there ought to be pent-up demand.

The biggest all-out rock festival in the land is Rock on the Range in Columbus, Ohio. It'll return from May 16-17 at Crew Stadium with an impressive lineup: Motley Crue, Alice in Chains, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Buckcherry, Shinedown, Saliva, Blue October, Hoobastank, Saving Abel, Flyleaf, the Used, and more.
Tickets will go on sale on Feb. 21 at Ticketmaster.

Pennywise and Pepper will co-headline the next Jagermeister Music Tour. So far, the only area date is at Cleveland's Agora Theatre on May 19. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 20 at Ticketmaster.

The last weekend of February will feature a couple big shows. Docksider and Nelson's are jointly putting on a benefit for percussion player Gary Tomporowski. Bands play both venues both nights; your stamps will let you go back and forth between the two venues.

That same weekend, Christian Lestat Bussier is throwing a two-day hip hop bash for his birthday at Papa Georges. Eriez Finest, Konkrete Thoughtz, Jio Vanni, and Artafact play Feb. 27, while Hectic Jizzo, Uncle Jimmy, Poetic, and Dice perform on Feb. 28. Cover will be $2.
