SeaWolves ready to scramble for housing

LAKELAND, Fla. -- When most of the Erie SeaWolves break spring camp Sunday and begin the long ride to Erie, they’ll have one pressing matter weighing on their minds.
Where will they live?
It won’t be until Saturday or Sunday when most of the players currently with the SeaWolves in spring training learn whether they will begin the season in Erie, Triple-A Toledo or high Single-A Lakeland.
Wherever their destination, a busy couple of days await.
“Finding a place is tough,’’ said right fielder Matt Joyce, who played with the SeaWolves in 2007 and is expected to start the season with Triple-A Toledo. “You go to where you’re assigned and you only have a couple days to find out where you’re living, get your furniture and figure out everything. You have to juggle that around your practice schedule, and then the season starts in a couple days.’’
Tigers farmhands who end up in Erie will live in a hotel for a few days (the Tigers pick up the tab) once they get to town until they make housing arrangements.
“In the beginning, it’s a little stressful because you have a lot of crap on your mind,’’ Joyce said. “When you get on the field, there’s only one thing you really think about and that’s taking care of business.’’
