Brrrrrr.
So much for that uncharacteristically mild weather we’ve all enjoyed for much of the past two weeks.
Walking around Jerry Uht Park early Tuesday afternoon while surveying the new playing surface amid temperatures that hit 70 degrees at one point, you might have thought June had arrived early.
That wasn’t the case on Thursday for the SeaWolves’ home opener against Binghamton. A gametime temperature of 46 degrees combined with a 15 mph breeze blowing in from north-northeast brought a quick return of winter coats, ski hats and gloves.
The nippy temperatures didn’t seem to bother the SeaWolves, at least during pre-game player introductions. Erie players lined up along the third-base line in their uniforms, while at least half the Binghamton team wore coats and donned knit hats over their caps or instead of caps.
Still, a lack of snow, which has played havoc with the start of SeaWolves baseball the past three years, made the nippy temperatures on Thursday a little more bearable.
