-- Outfielder Justin Justice joined the SeaWolves on Wednesday from high Single-A Lakeland. He replaces center fielder Freddy Guzman on the roster.
Guzman was promoted to Triple-A Toledo Tuesday night following Erie’s 5-2 home loss to the Trenton Thunder.
Justice, 23, was hitting .300 (27-for-90) with six homers and 14 RBIs in 25 games with Lakeland this season. He’s in his fifth season in the Tigers’ organization after being selected in the 31st round of the 2003 draft.
SeaWolves manager Tom Brookens managed Justice for part of the 2005 season at short-season Single-A Oneonta. Brookens said Justice would likely see the bulk of time in center field.
“He’s a good center fielder who can go get ’em,’’ Brookens said. “He’s got pretty good speed, and a left-handed bat in our lineup right now might go pretty good. He should fit in here and do good.’’
-- Trenton’s two wins against Erie in the first two games of their four-game series matched their 2007 win total against the SeaWolves.
Trenton won the Eastern League championship last season, but the Thunder had their troubles with the SeaWolves, losing eight of 10 games, including a 2-5 mark at Jerry Uht Park.
It was the first time Trenton lost a season series against the SeaWolves. Trenton won its season series against Erie the previous eight seasons.
-- Trenton right-hander Anthony Claggett was promoted to the Thunder on Friday from high Single-A Tampa.
Claggett was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the 2005 draft.
The Tigers traded Claggett and pitchers Kevin Whelan and Humberto Sanchez to the New York Yankees for Gary Sheffield in November 2006.
-- Trenton center fielder Austin Jackson had a 12-game hitting streak and a 16-game on-base streak end on April 24.
Baseball America ranked Jackson the Yankees’ No. 2 minor league prospect entering the season.
Jackson turned down a scholarship offer to play basketball for Georgia Tech and signed with the Yankees after they drafted him in the eighth round in 2005.
