Famous bats from unusual trade draw $10,000

Minor league pitcher John Odom made national headlines in May when the Laredo Broncos of the independent United League Baseball circuit acquired him from the Calgary Vipers for 10 maple baseball bats in one of professional baseball's most bizarre trades.

Ripley Entertainment recently purchased those bats, valued at $650, for $10,000 and plans to feature them in a future exhibit at a Ripley's Believe It or Not museum. Vipers officials say all proceeds from the sale will go to a children's charity.

Calgary Vipers officials had planned to put the bats up for sale on Ebay before they were contacted by Ripley's.

Ripley's took possession of the bats on Saturday at Calgary's Foothills Stadium.
