Lakeland Flying Tigers win marathon game

The Single-A Lakeland Flying Tigers defeated the Daytona Cubs 3-2 on Sunday in a 20-inning marathon that lasted 6 hours, 6 minutes at Lakeland’s Joker Marchant Stadium.
Both teams used eight pitchers. Lakeland scored the winning run in the bottom of the 20th on a hit batter, walk and fielding error.
Daytona third baseman Jonathan Mota took the loss. He came on to pitch the 19th inning after going 0-for-8 and playing in the field for 18 innings.
Lakeland outfielder Jeramy Laster went 0-for-8 with four strikeouts, but scored the winning run.
Detroit Tigers left-hander Dontrelle Willis threw two innings of relief in the game, allowing one run, one hit and walking three with no strikeouts.
It was the first time Willis threw in a game since the Tigers sent him to the minors to work out his major control problems after he allowed eight runs and walked five in 1 1/3 innings of a June 9 loss to the Cleveland Indians.
Willis pitched the seventh and eighth innings in Sunday’s game.
