SeaWolves infielder Shawn Roof made his Double-A debut with the club on Saturday in Erie’s 5-3 home win over the Harrisburg Senators.
Starting at shortstop, Roof went 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. He collected his hit in the sixth, a line single to right. Roof was promoted to Erie on Friday from high Single-A Lakeland.
Roof, 23, is the son of Gene Roof, the Tigers’ minor league roving outfield/baserunning coordinator.
Shawn Roof replaced utility infielder Caonabo Cosme, who was put on the club’s disabled list on Friday due to a back strain. The Tigers selected Roof in the 33rd round of the 2007 June draft.
Roof was hitting .261 with no homers and 16 RBIs in 48 games with Lakeland this season. He split his 2007 season between the Gulf Coast Rookie League Tigers and Lakeland.
