-- Catcher Angel Flores was promoted to the Erie SeaWolves on Sunday. Flores will temporarily fill the vacated roster spot of veteran catcher Max St. Pierre, who left the team to attend the birth of his daughter Saturday.
Flores is expected to back up Dusty Ryan, who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in Erie’s 9-5 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday. Signed as a non-drafted free agent by Detroit in 2004, Flores is a native of Manati, Puerto Rico, who has hit .250 (3-for-12) in four games for the Class A Western Michigan Whitecaps this season.
-- Outfielder Wilkin Ramirez and infielder Max Leon, who began their seasons with the Erie SeaWolves, continue to struggle at the plate since their call-ups to Class AAA Toledo.
Ramirez and Leon were each hitless in the Mud Hens’ 4-1 victory over Syracuse in International League play Saturday night. Ramirez has hit .100 (3-for-30) in eight games for Toledo, while Leon has hit .200 (5-25) over that same span.
Pitcher Joel Zumaya and outfielder Clete Thomas helped Toledo to the victory. The Detroit Tigers assigned the former SeaWolves to the Mud Hens as part of their injury rehabilitations.
Zumaya, expected to rejoin the Tigers’ staff by the end of this week, pitched a scoreless inning of relief for Toledo starter Lauren Gagnier.
Thomas went 0-for-3, but scored a run in the win. He’s hit .231 (31-134) while he continues to rehabilitate from a sprained ankle.
-- The ‘Wolves leave Monday for their longest road trip of the season. Erie will open a three-game series at Binghamton on Tuesday, followed three at Harrisburg next weekend.
The 10-game trip will conclude with a June 23-26 series at Trenton. The ‘Wolves return to Jerry Uht Park on June 27 for a seven-game home stand against Harrisburg and Akron.
