-- The two newest SeaWolves, Joe Tucker and Casper Wells, are getting settled in at Jerry Uht Park after being promoted from West Michigan on Friday.
Wells, a 23-year-old who hails from Schenectady, N.Y., has played in four games in the outfield for the ’Wolves. During that stretch, he is hitting .250 with one double, one home run and two RBIs.
Tucker has made the most of his four at-bats while playing at first base. The 24-year-old resident of Canton, Ohio, has two hits, is hitting .500, and has one RBI.
-- The ’Wolves continued to struggle at home Tuesday. After losing to Portland 5-1 in 10 innings, Erie was 10-19 at home. Going into Wednesday night’s game against the Sea Dogs, the ’Wolves and Reading were tied with the fewest home wins in the Eastern League.
-- Portland entered Wednesday’s game as the top offensive team in the EL. The Sea Dogs have a team batting average of .274 and have scored 344 runs.
The ’Wolves were eighth out of 12 teams with a .265 team average, but they were tied with Binghamton for second with 326 runs. Erie is also second in home runs with 56, just two behind Harrisburg.
-- Thursday’s starting pitchers in the final of the three games between the ’Wolves and Sea Dogs matches Erie right-hander Josh Rainwater (4-2, 6.06 ERA) against Portland left-hander Dustin Richardson (5-5, 5.93 ERA). The ’Wolves will wear throwback uniforms from the 1999-2000 season as part of their 10 seasons of Double-A celebration.
The ’Wolves begin a three-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday. That concludes Erie’s six-game home stand. The ’Wolves then embark on a 10-day road trip, their longest of the season, that begins Tuesday and includes three games at Binghamton, three more at Harrisburg, and four at Trenton.
