Bonine to make Erie start on Monday

Detroit Tigers right-hander Eddie Bonine joined the SeaWolves on Friday after he was optioned to the club to make a start on Monday against the Altoona Curve.
The Tigers sent Bonine to Erie so he could throw on his regular pitching schedule. Triple-A Toledo is off on Monday. Bonine, who went 14-5 with a 3.90 ERA in 25 starts with Erie last season, is considered the likely candidate to remain Detroit’s fifth starter when the Tigers resume play after the major league all-star break.
“With Toledo being off for their break, that sends him here, and we’re happy to have him, that’s no problem,’’ SeaWolves manager Tom Brookens said. “It will be a one-start deal, and that decision will be made by Jim Leyland and Dave Dombrowski as to whether he goes back up to the big leagues or where he goes from here.’’
