Reading notes: Reading has lost four of six games to Erie this season. Erie swept the R-Phils in a three-game series at Jerry Uht Park May 27-29. Reading defeated Erie twice in a three-game set in Reading July 8-10. … Erie and Reading have been shuttling between fifth and last place in the Eastern League Southern Division standings for much of the season. … Shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson were placed on the temporary inactive list earlier this week. Both players were selected to the U.S. team that will compete in the Beijing Olympics. Donald was the Philadelphia Phillies' third-round pick in 2006. Marson was selected by the Phils in the fourth round of the 2004 draft. … Reading had four players selected to the July 13 Futures All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium: Marson, Donald, Carrasco and outfielder Greg Golson. Marson, Donald and Golson played for the U.S. team, while Carrasco pitched for the World Team. It was the third straight year Carrasco was selected to the Futures Game. He is fifth in the league in strikeouts (109).
Erie notes: The SeaWolves begin a six-game homestand tonight in the opener of a three-game series with the R-Phils. Harrisburg visits Erie for a three-game series Monday through Wednesday. … Second baseman Will Rhymes on Thursday ranked third in the league with 120 hits behind Bowie outfielder Lou Montanez (139) and Trenton outfielder Austin Jackson. … When outfielder Casper Wells hit for the cycle against Akron on Tuesday, he became the first SeaWolves player to do so since infielder Juan Francia on Aug. 9, 2005. … Tonight, right-hander Luis Marte will make his third start since returning on July 21 from a two-month stay on the disabled list. Marte took the loss in his return against Binghamton on July 21 and did not figure in the decision on Saturday in Erie's 6-5 home win over Bowie. … Right-hander Josh Rainwater, who leads the club in wins, surrendered nine runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in his last outing, a 10-1 home loss to Bowie on Sunday. … Right-hander Guillermo Moscoso will make his Double-A debut on Sunday. He was promoted to the SeaWolves from Single-A Lakeland on Tuesday. With Lakeland, he was 2-3 with a 2.42 ERA in 15 games, including six starts.
