Take the challenge

Football season is in high gear.
It's time to accept the fantasy football challenge.
E-mail me why you should be chosen to participate in the Times-News Fantasy Football Challenge.
We'll do a live Web draft on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m.

Preseason running backs

Everyone wants the No. 1 pick.
Everyone wants L.T.
So, what happens when someone else gets No. 1 and L.T.
You take the Rams Steven Jackson at No. 2 and enjoy watching the Rams all fall.
Here are the rest of my preseason rankings for running backs:

3. Frank Gore, 49ers. No, I'm not worried about his hand injury.
4. Larry Johnson, Chiefs. Yes, I am worried about his holdout, O-line and Priest Holmes.
5. Joseph Addai, Colts. He can run and catch.
6. Shaun Alexander, Seahawks. What a fall for this guy.
7. Rudi Johnson, Bengals. I like chanting Rudi, Rudi, Rudi.
8. Laurence Maroney, Pats. He goes off this year.
9. Brian Westbrook, Eagles. Run/Catch combo.
10. Willie Parker, Steelers. I think others have him rated too high.
11. Ronnie Brown, Dolphins. You'll see a better Ronnie this year.
12. Willis McGahee, Ravens. He should see the ball a lot.
13. Maurice-Jones Drew, Jags. If you had him last year, you probably had a good team.
14. Reggie Bush, Saints. Still has Deuce McAllister in the backfield.
15. Travis Henry, Broncos. Every running back's dream is to play for the Broncos.
16. Thomas Jones, Jets. The J-E-T-S finally get a Curtis Martin replacement.
17. Cedric Benson, Bears. Finally gets the starting job.
18. Deuce McAllister, Saints. There's that Reggie Bush guy.
19. Edgerrin James, Cardinals. Nice offense.
20. Clinton Portis, Redskins. What happened to this guy.

Look for more rankings soon.

Preseason QB rankings

Now that RBs are posted, here's a look at quarterbacks:

1. Peyton Manning, Colts: Is there any other choice?
2. Carson Palmer, Bengals: He's closing the gap on Manning.
3. Tom Brady, Pats: He has plenty of weapons.
4. Marc Bulger, Rams: I just hope S-Jax doesn't take too much away from the passing game.
5. Drew Brees, Saints: Can he duplicate last year?
6. Matt Hasselbeck, Seahawks: Should rebound from last year.
7. Donovan McNabb, Eagles: Injuries still are a concern.
8. Jon Kitna, Lions: 10-win season? Well, the offense should be fun to watch.
9. Jay Cutler, Broncos: Should throw plenty to Javon Walker.
10. Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers: Shouldn't be limited to 20 throws a game.
11. Tony Romo, Cowboys: Will he put the playoffs behind him?
12. Philip Rivers, Chargers: Still the LT show in SD.
13. Matt Leinart, Cards: New offense and has weapons at WR.
14. Vince Young, Titans: Was last year a mirage?
15. Rex Grossman, Bears: Helped Colts win Super Bowl.
16. Eli Manning, Giants: He struggled last season.
17. Brett Favre, Packers: The decline continues.
18. Mike Vick: Gotcha.
18. JP Losman, Bills: Has that Lee Evans connection going for him.
19. Jake Delhomme, Panthers: Should bounce back.
20. Trent Green, Dolphins.
