FJ Fantasy in the Wall Street Journal

Millcreek's Jeff Peters has the best draft boards around. Check out his story in Wall Street Journal. His Web site is here.

Giants-Redskins thoughts

I started Eli Manning in one league, and after a few minutes I was pleased. Besides the first-quarter rushing TD, however, Manning was a disappointment from a fantasy perspective. ... Brandon Jacobs' 100-yard game and Plaxico Burress' 100-yard game were impressive. ... Expect Jason Campbell to have his ups and downs this season. ... John Carney was fantasy gold with three FGs. ... Clinton Portis put in a solid effort. I wouldn't worry too much about him at this point.

Sunday's thoughts

I have Larry Johnson in a league. It wasn't a great draft choice; he just fell to me in the second round. It'll take a few weeks to be sure if that was a good thing or not. Against the Patriots, however, I'm benching him. ... One player I'm starting in place of LJ is Michael Turner. I think he's good for 80 yards and a TD today. ... I think Selvin Young will have a similar day for the Broncos. I'd start him if I had him -- even against the Raiders. ... Ryan Grant, meet the bench against the Vikes. ... It's a good matchup, but I'd still be leery about going with Laurence Maroney. ... I'm starting two Steelers WRs in one league this week, not by choice, but by necessity. I'd expect a good day from Santonio Holmes. I'm crossing my fingers that Hines Ward can catch a short TD. ... I'm high on Eddie Royal this year. The Broncos receiver could surprise many. ... Matt Schaub and David Garrard. Which one do I start? I'm going with Shaub. He should be good for at least one hookup with Andre Johnson. ... I'm still no fan of Brett Favre, but if you have him, it's not a bad start today. ... Derek Anderson has a bad matchup today. I still like him later in the season. ... Go with Kurt Warner today and don't worry about it. ... Don't go with Jake Delhomme unless you have to. When Steve Smith gets back, things change.

A look at Week 2

Eddie Royal. Man, I like this guy. I liked him so much that I drafted him in three out of four leagues. I would have taken him in the fourth league but that one only had a four-player bench. If he's available, grab him. ... I'd even put him ahead of DeSean Jackson for a waiver claim. ... Tom Brady's out, but I'd be leery of Matt Cassel. If you need him, grab him, but there should be other options, like Tarvaris Jackson, Matt Ryan or Kerry Collins. ... Speaking of Pats, Sammy Morris makes an intriguing pickup. Bill Belichick is the master of weird gameplans, so it could be a blip. But Laurence Maroney owners should be a little nervous. ... If you want to take a shot on a RB who might not be owned, I like Steve Slaton and Ray Rice, in that order. ... Chris Johnson is a beast, but he's probably already taken in many leagues. If not, grab him. ... Matt Forte looked good, too. ... Marques Colston is out for a couple weeks. Devery Henderson makes for an interesting choice, especially if your league gives bonus points for big plays.

Week 2 thoughts

First off, don't forget to bench your Texans and Ravens. ... I have four good RBs in one of my four leagues. I have LJ, Marion Barber, Chris Johnson and Michael Turner. Of course, I'd like to trade one of them. Until then, I have to go with just two. This week, it's Barber and LJ with the starting nods. I do like all four this week. ... I look for Brett Favre to come back to earth this week against the Patriots. ... Aaron Rogers has another good matchup, however. ... Don't get too carried away by Matt Ryan. He looked good Week 1, but things will change Sunday. ... With injuries to the Jaguars' line, you should wait a week on starting Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew. ... In another league of mine, I have to roll with David Garrard. I don't have any other options. If you're considering Garrard, hopefully you have other options. ... I have Steelers WRs Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes. I also have Brandon Marshall. I can only start two, and this week I'm going with Ward and Holmes. ... Dallas Clark's injury last week concerned me. I'm benching him for the Raiders' Zach Miller. ... The Bengals used to be fantasy gold. I'd bench all of them until they show some life.

Good luck this week.

Players to target

If you own LT, then you must get Darren Sproles. ... He's third on the depth-chart, but Michael Bush is worthy of a pick. ... J.T. O'Sullivan might not be the second coming of Kurt Warner, but he's a serviceable backup. ... Looking for someone to vulture TDs? Tim Hightower is your guy. Don't forget about Michael Pittman, too. ... Kerry Collins is worthy of a roster spot, as well as WR Justin Gage. ... I cut Isaac Bruce last week in one league because I was desperate for a TE spot. I'm looking to get Bruce back this week. ... Brian Griese is the guy in Tampa. ... Tarvaris Jackson is on thin ice in Minnesota. I'd stay away from him, even in the deepest of leagues.

Week 3 thoughts

Keep watching the TV today for news on Adrian Peterson. He's a game-time decision because of a bad hammy. If you have him, hopefully you have Chester Taylor to plug in. ... In one league, I have David Garrard and Matt Schaub as my two QBs. To go with only one this week, I'm leaning Garrard. No Bob Sanders makes it easier. If you have either QB, be patient. It's been a rough start but the schedule does get better. ... Colts TE Dallas Clark is supposed to play. This is one of those situations where I'd rather start a different player that I know will see the field. I'd wait another week on Clark. ... You gotta like Frank Gore this week against the Lions. I'd even go with QB J.T. O'Sullivan as well. ... I also like Burner Turner against the pathetic Chiefs. ... Call me crazy, but I'm benching Roy Williams for Eddie Royal in one league. ... I've seen some big numbers projected for Matt Cassel today. Not sure that's going to happen, even against the Dolphins.

Good luck this week.

Week 4 thoughts

I can't in good conscious start any Steelers player expecting a big game, unless it's the defense this week. Big Ben looked battered and beaten last week, and the Ravens defense won't be easier. I'm starting Kurt Warner over him in one league. .... This could be the last week as a starter for Derek Anderson. I picked up Brady Quinn in one league hoping to get ahead of the curve. ... Who's been a bigger disappointment -- Santonio Holmes or Braylon Edwards? I gotta give the edge to Edwards, who should do better than Holmes this week. ... I had an offer on the table to trade Reggie Bush for Philip Rivers. I like Rivers, but I like what Bush is doing. I also like his matchup this week.
