Rating my teams

This season, I have four fantasy football teams. Sometimes, it seems like it's not enough. Others, it seems like wayyyyy too much.

Team 1 -- Erie Times-News Challenge.
Record: 2-2.
Notes: Started the season 2-0 and lost two weeks ago by one point and last week by two points.
Key players: Adrian Peterson, Brandon Marshall and Titans defense.
Improvements needed: Ryan Grant to step up as No. 2 RB or trade for one.

Team 2 -- Non-keeper league
Record: 3-1
Notes: Did a phone draft since they moved the draft date on me. I missed a couple rounds at the start and cut it short at the end. Despite my lack of involvement in the draft, the team's doing OK.
Key players: Marion Barber, Chris Johnson, Michael Turner, Brandon Marhsall.
Improvements needed: Need to trade a RB for help at WR2. Also need a TE.

Team 3 -- One-player keeper
Record: 2-2
Notes: Took a QB late and I'm still paying the price.
Key players: Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore and Reggie Bush
Improvements needed: I need a QB. Even with my excess at RB, I'm not going to trade Gore or Bush straight-up for a QB, unless his name is Romo.

Team 4 -- Dynasty league
Record: 2-2
Notes: My first dynasty league -- we can keep 15 players. Took Steven Jackson No. 5 overall and regretting it.
Key player: Brandon Marshall.
Improvements needed: A lot. Need my top picks --Jackosn, Marshawn Lynch, Santonio Holmes to play up to potential. Needed to start Ronnie Brown during his huge week. Being a dynasty league, there's not much hope emerging from the free-agent wires. This team will need its players to improve or I'll need to swing a deal or three.

Week 5 thoughts

I dumped Jake Delhomme in one league to start Kyle Orton as a bye-week fill-in. It could be a good week for the Bears. ... Michael Turner has struggled on the road, but I'm rolling with him this week against the Packers. ... Roy Williams was cut in my non-keeper league. I grabbed him up, but he's riding the bench for me this week. I'm starting Brandon Marshall and Santonio Holmes. ... I like all Broncos this week -- and just about every week. ... My QB choices in my keeper league are Matt Schaub and David Garrard. I'm cutting Schaub and picking up Brian Griese. ... I'm waiting for Dallas Clark to wake up. Hopefully he can get some yardage, if not a TD. ... I wish Ocho Cinco would shut up and catch a touchdown. ... Does Al Davis look like the Crypt Keeper or what? ... Mewelde Moore isn't a bad option at RB most weeks. Unfortunately, the Steelers face the Jags. ... In my Times-News Challenge league, I'm rolling with Kurt Warner over Ben Roethlisberger. ... Ryan Grant, where are you? ... I'm benching Chris Johnson against the Ravens this week. ... I had Ronnie Brown penciled in the starting lineup in one league, but I'm not liking the matchup against the Chargers. I'm going with Sammy Morris instead.

Good luck this week.

Week 6 thoughts

My four teams went 0-4 last week, so it was time to make a couple changes. First, a disclaimer. I did spend the weekend at Cedar Point, so I wasn't able to make any necessary lineup changes. Second, Cedar Point is an awesome place. Maybe more on the park at a later date.

In my one-player keeper league, I traded Fred Taylor, Hines Ward and Kyle Orton for Brandon Marshall, Trent Edwards and Vincent Jackson. My goal was to improve at WR, and as long as he stays out of jail, I should accomplish that.

In my dynasty league, I traded Brandon Marshall, Chris Johnson (RB) and the Bears defense for a slew of players. I received Calvin Johnson, Matt Forte, Maurice Jones-Drew, Steve Breaston and TJ Housh. We'll see how the moves work out.

Here are my thoughts for the week:

I'm starting to believe in Ronnie Brown, He's a weekly starter for now. ... One reason I traded for Matt Forte is he's fifth in our league in scoring for RBs. He's also a factor for the Bears. I like him from here on out. ... I'm still not feelin' it for Steven Jackson. I wish I hadn't spent a first-round pick on him. ... Can you believe Eli Manning is a better option than Peyton? I'd start Eli over Peyton this week. ... It's a good matchup, but I'd bench Darren McFadden this week against the Saints. He's dinged up. Justin Fargas is a better play. ... Speaking of wasted picks, what happened to Laurence Maroney? ... Eddie Royal's hurt. Go with Brandon Stokely this week. ... Looking for a bye week filler at defense? Check out the Jets or Redskins. ... Chris Henry is back with the Bengals, but he's not really back. Keep benching him. ... Isaac Bruce looks like he's found the fountain of youth. I'm a believer again. ... Don't expect 6 TDs, but Brett Favre has a strong matchup vs. the Bengals. ... In my league where I traded Kyle Orton, I picked up Matt Cassel. I think he'll be serviceable. ... Don't expect much from Roy Williams this week. ... I still have Fred Taylor in one other league. After his matchup with the Broncos this week, he has a bye, followed by the Browns, Bengals and Lions. Things get tougher after that, however.

That's it for this week. Good luck.

Romo out up to four weeks

If you have Tony Romo, it's time to make some calls about finding a backup QB.

The Cowboys QB will miss up to four weeks with a broken finger on his throwing hand.

Brad Johnson is the backup.

LJ to miss Sunday

Make other plans if Larry Johnson is a key cog on your fantasy football team. The Associated Press reported that Johnson violated a team rule and will miss Sunday's game against the Titans.

Week 7 thoughts

Tony Romo may or may not play. The addition of Roy Williams to the offense is nice, but I'd play it safe and look elsewhere at QB this week. ... I have no confidence in anyone on the Seahawks while Matt Hasselbeck is out. The only exception might be TE John Carlson. Parker's still hurt. What else is new? I wouldn't be afraid trotting out Mewelde Moore as an RB2 this week in my lineup. ... Big Ben's perfect playing in Ohio. I don't think he's the perfect start this week, however. I'd bench him in place of someone like Kyle Orton this week. ... Matt Cassel found my bench this week after last week's performance. My QB-deficient team in my one-keeper league is starting Trent Edwards this week. ... Adrian Peterson rolled against the Bears last year. Don't expect the same thing, but don't bench him either. ... I needed a bye week kicker and went with Kris Brown. All Texans look good against the Lions this week. ... A couple matchups I really like is Chris Johnson against the Chiefs defense and Marion Barber against the Rams. ... The Titans defense should have a field day against the Chiefs as well. ... OK, Ryan Grant, will you please score a TD this week?! ... Marvin Harrison and the rest of the Colts look better. ... I'm benching Ronnie Brown against the Ravens this week. ... One correction on the Colts offense. I'm still waiting for Dallas Clark to emerge. It likely could be this week because I'm benching him in favor of Bo Scaife. ... Sammy Morris could have a surprisingly strong day against a weak Broncos defense.

Good luck this week.

Week 8 thoughts, picks

It's time to get a winning streak going in my one-keeper league. Trouble is, I need a win first. I've lost the past two weeks by a combined five points to fall out of a playoff spot. Having Reggie Bush out this week and next doesn't help. Having Adrian Peterson on a bye makes things worse. My chances for a win rest on the legs of Fred Taylor and Cedric Benson this week. Both have good matchups, both could do the job. It's what I'm rolling with at RB this week. ... In my non-keeper league, Larry Johnson and Santonio Holmes are both out. I have a good backups at RB, leaving me with a choice of Burner Turner or Marion Barber. I don't like Burner's record on the road, so Barber's my choice. I'm picking up Ike Bruce as a Holmes replacement. ... I picked up David Akers this week in my weekly matchup of kickers. ... I have the choice of Big Ben or Kurt Warner at QB in the Times-News Challenge. Big Ben's my guy this week. ... I also have Taylor and Benson at RB in that league, too. I have Peterson and Ryan Grant on byes. ... I also have Brandon Marshall on a bye in the ETN league. I took a flier on Devery Henderson at WR. ... Nate Washington makes a nice pickup this week. ... I've seen high projections for Sammy Morris this week. I'm not sold. ... I've got Matt Schaub at QB in my dynasty league. I like players facing the Bengals defense. ... I'm not sold on Ronnie Brown this week, but I'm starting him over Maurice-Jones Drew. ... If you're having thoughts about starting Darren McFadden, trust me and bench him. He's falling short of the next Adrian Peterson label. ... I like Antonio Bryant this week, but not enough to bench TJ Housh. ... Calvin Johnson's the only thing the Lions have, but he's still worth starting every week.

Good luck this week.
