Wednesday night scrimmage....

The Erie BayHawks had a 5-on-5 scrimmage at Gannon University on Wednesday night. They played two 10-minute quarters. The coaches kept score by how many defensive stops each team could get. The team with the most defensive stops won and the losing team had to run from the baseline to the half-court line and then run the length of the court and back.

The White team won both times. I kept track of the offensive numbers and the White team won in both instances as well. Again, what I have is unofficial, but guard Oliver Lafayette of the White team lead all scorers with eight points as he made two 3-pointers. Guard Mike Cook led the Black team with five points.

Team Black (19)
Starters
C Erik Daniels (Kentucky) 2 pts
F Ivan Harris (Ohio State) 3 pts
F Geary Claxton (Penn State) 0 pts
SG Raheem Moss (Cleveland State) 2 pts
PG Vernon Hamilton (Clemson) 2 pts
Reserves - SG Mike Cook (Pittsburgh) 5 pts., G Maureece Rice (George Washington) 2 pts, PG Quinton Day (Missouri-Kansas City) 3 pts

Team White (21)
C Jarvis Gunter (Arkansas Pine-Bluff) 0 pts
F Taj McCullough (Winthrop) 5 pts
F Jackie Manuel (North Carolina) 5 pts
G Oliver Lafayette (Houston) 8 pts
G Xavier Whipple (LSU) 3 pts
Reserves - SF Wesley Fluellen (Robert Morris) 0 pts, F Tejay Anderson (Youngstown State) 0 pts, PG Cliff Clinkscales (DePaul) 0 pts.

A quick breakdown of the scrimmage.

Hold up.

Speaking of breaking down. Guys looked really sore at this point in training camp. Erik Daniels and Oliver Lafayette sat out the last shooting drill of practice with soreness. Daniels got his thigh iced and Lafayette was nursing the left foot that's been bothering him.

Wesley Fluellen's thigh was bothering him while Mike Cook continues to struggle with his left knee being sore. Cook returned to practice after missing Tuesday's practice. Xavier Whipple had to have his groin stretched quite a bit last night.

However, Jackie Manuel returned to practice and looked sharp. Two days off to rest his foot did him some good.

Now back to the scrimmage breakdown.

In the first 10-minute session, Team White got six stops while Team Black got 5. As far as my unofficial scoring, Whipple and Manuel each hit 3-pointers and McCullough added a bucket for Team White. For Team Black, Day hit a 3-pointer while Hamilton and Cook each had two points.

So after Team Black had to run, the second 10-minute session was more intense. Team White was trailing in terms of stops and in points before Lafayette began making shots. Lafayette scored his eight points during that session, making a pair of 3-pointers.

Before the last possession, assistant coach Ben McDonald said if the White team got a defensive stop, it'd win the game. Sure enough, Team White forced a turnover to end the game in its favor.

So today, Treloar will make his first cuts. He's only going to cut four because forward Brian Robinson was already released for medical reasons.

Who's staying? Who's going home? We'll find out soon enough, but I'll say this.

Treloar seems like a low-key guy, but he really got after the players after practice and basically challenged them to get it together with lively language to emphasize his point.

So how they respond to that today may impact who the BayHawks keep.
