A wee Erie Irish tune

Driving to work yesterday, my youngest daughter and I heard a fun little Irish tune called "St. Patrick's Day in Erie." I thought it was something the radio station put together, but it sounded too professional.

It was a catchy, catchy tune and Lauren said "can we listen to that tomorrow, too?"

I googled the chorus (because that's all I could remember) at lunchtime yesterday and found out that it is a professional song, sung by local Irish band, Ischabaha. (www.ischabaha.com)

The song is available on CD locally at the Erie Book Store, Tipperary West and World of Music. You can hear a 2 minute sample of the song online at http://cdbaby.com/cd/ischabaha.

To my chagrin -- it is not on itunes. I am so spoiled by itunes!

Anyway...just for a wee bit o' fun...here are the lyrics:

"St. Patrick’s Day in Erie" [Jim Tometsko]

Well it started at St. Patrick's for Lent I went to Mass,
Then I headed down to Sullivan's for some green eggs and some hash
I started out me day just right I couldn't want for more
With a toora loora loora as I headed out the door

CHORUS: Ear-Aye-ee; Ear-aye-ay, Ear-aye-Ear-aye-oh
Ear-Aye-ee; Ear-aye-ay, Ear-aye-Ear-aye-oh

The Rince Na Tierna Dancers are the grandest in the land
They dance so much St. Patrick's Day, next day it's tough to stand
They all head to the Mannechoir in hopes to rest their feet
But they kick and tap and dance and swirl and step right to the beat

CHORUS

St. Patrick's Day in Erie, what's an Irishman to do
Trade Smith Dogs and some bagels for a bowl of Irish Stew
Or head up to McGarry's for a Reuben and a beer
And toast the health of all your friends from here to Waldameer

CHORUS

Well I went on down to Dobbin's Quay to watch the waves roll in
I went up in the tower and I stood out in the wind
I looked in all directions and everywhere was green
But in March, In Erie Hah - I knew it was a dream

CHORUS

St. Patrick's Day in Erie, there's not much left to say
It happens once a year but its in your heart each day
So as we head into the night, with smiles upon our faces
May 12th street rise to meet ya and God hold you in his graces
