He never learn...or maybe he will

The husband and I were at a wedding reception on Friday evening. One of the couples at the table asked how long another couple had been married. Soon we were going around the table, each of the couples saying how many years they'd been married.

I tried to do the math in my head quickly, but, alas, when they got to Dan & I, we just sort of looked at each other and said..."uh..I don't know...what? 12 years now? Or is it 13? Oh...God, I don't know...we've been married forever now."

And, yet...the man is sometimes as clueless as the day I married him.

Sunday -- December 16 -- NINE days before Christmas. We still have a bare-naked tree...correction, we have a lighted, but bare-naked tree, two cranky kids hopped up from lunch with Santa and I'm standing before a table full of chocolate covered-pretzels, cookies and all kinds of other goodies for the kid's classroom parties and family and friends (and a few things I was dipping in chocolate for a February Her Times story).

The house needs cleaned, the laundry needs done, the Christmas cards need stamped, the kids' gifts need wrapped (cause the kids discovered where I hid them...so much for the Santa thing) and.... well, I could go on & on. Suffice to say, there was a lot of work to be done.

My husband, dead-serious, says to me, "I want to go shoot my muzzle loader with Jeff, but I want to listen to the Steelers game, too."

I took a breath, refrained from throwing the cup of melted chocolate at him, and said "Hmmm...what a quandry, honey. What fun thing should you choose between doing today? Oooh...decisions...decisions."

He said, "You're being sarcastic?"

After, what? 12...13 years of marriage, you'd think he'd know better than to say something so stupid to an obviously stressed out and frazzled wife.

And, having been married to me for all this time, you'd think know sarcasm when he hears it.

He stayed home, of course. He listened to the game as he helped me check items off the to-do list.

So, I guess he has learned a thing or two, eh?
