Three things - 1/7/08

Three things I'm LOVING this week:

1. Woman's Day magazine's Web site. I have long believed that very few people make the leap from print to web. You're either a print lover/reader or a web lover/reader. As evidence, I'd point to the fact that I subscribe to several magazines, but have never went to their Web sites...even if they heavily promote -- in the print product -- things you can "find on the web." Well...this week I made a lair out of myself and went to the Woman's Day magazine Web site to check out a story they promoted in the mag about the top kid-friendly vacation resorts. While I was looking at that story, I noticed about five other ones I wanted to read that were scrolling below it and spent a good 1/2 hour messing around on their site, looking at the slide shows -- including this one on cool things to do with digital photos. BTW -- if it's been awhile since you read Woman's Day, you might be surprised. It's now my favorite magazine.

2. The Hog Blog. I've always thought it would be cool to go to Punxy for all the Groundhog Day hoopla, BUT gas is $3 a gallon and standing in the freezing cold with thousands of other people at 5 a.m. doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy... This year, I got to go to Punxy thanks to laptops, wireless internet service and ETN reporter Sarah Weber who did all the driving, freezing and crowd shoving for me.

3. My new cell phone. Oooh...I can open it up and text, text, text. And, I added unlimited texting to my plan, so I'm positively dangerous now. BTW, dear readers, did you know that if you have Verizon Wireless you get the best deal if you shop for you phone online? My new phone cost me $40 because I have a $50 credit for the new-every-two-years thing and when you shop online you get a $50 credit (and free shipping). Go to the store and you will not get nearly as good of a price as you will online.

Three things I'm HATING this week:

1. Car-payment-karma. I'm not sure how the car payment Gods know, but they know. They know when you pay off a vehicle and instantly strike the other, older vehicle down. Thou shalt not have zero car payments (cue evil laughter).

I left work at 5:45 p.m. to meet some friends at the Plymouth at 6 p.m. Got in the car, turned the key and the engine wouldn't "catch." I knew it wasn't the battery because the lights and radio work, so I hoofed it over to the Plymouth in the freezing rain (that was fun).

I just Googled my car's symptoms on my lunch and have given it a tentative diagnosis of having a fuel pump problem -- which...don't tell my husband this...can be caused by riding around on an empty tank which is something I do all the time that drives him insane (oh...if he finds that out, I'll never hear the end of it). Mums the word, folks, we have NO CLUE what causes fuel pump problems. Ignorance is bliss.

2. The paparazzi hounding Brittany Spears and her family. I feel so sorry for this woman and I'm convinced they have now driven her insane (how else to explain the Brittish accent she's speaking in now...has she split into other personalities?). She's a mess and they're chasing her all over the place (they have helicopters covering her!) to catch every minute of her downward spiral. It occurred to me today that they are not going to be satisfied until they kill her or she kills herself. It's just pathetic. And I feel guilty for subscribing to Us Weekly who have her on the cover almost every single week -- feeding the frenzy.

3. ......hmmmmmm......

Hmmm....another week I can't think of something else to be mad about. I really am becoming an optimist.

In regards to your car... and that DVD I referenced earlier... (I'm going to sound like a fruit...) if you think negative thoughts, you draw negativity towards your life... In an earlier blog, you had mentioned the load that had been lifted off of your shoulders when the payments on your hubby's truck were finally done... then you mentioned that it'd be your luck to have something happen to your SUV too... and there you have it (yes, I sound fruity... and preacher-ish... but I believe it) IDK, I just think it's all in the mind... maybe?

Congratulations on the new phone!!! Texting is FUN! YIPPEE!!! You've joined the texting world! Please convince my mother to get texting too... I hate having to call and ask for rides... it'd be so much easier to just text her! Verizon wireless rocks! BUT I only have unlimited from Verizon to Verizon... so my friends w/o Verizon kill my bill every month... GAH! :-( We'll be changing that plan soon... like I said, texting is fun! (Just not while driving... I REFUSE to do that).

Ok... slight little mini-rant thingy that you've just witnessed! Good luck with the car and enjoy texting!!!

Peace!
