Three things I'm loving this week:
1. The trails at Asbury Woods. I met up with some Erie Runners Club friends for a trail run on Sunday a.m. I went out with the 7 a.m. group and then ended up running with the 8 a.m. group, too. I never thought I'd like trail running, but it's really different and keeps you on your toes. I only wish Asbury Woods weren't so darn far away from East county.
2. Nunzi's Place, 2330 E. 38th St. We completely forgot about Nunzi's even though we only live a few miles from the place. Then, my brother brought Nunzi's takeout to my parent's house one night. We forgot they had takeout! So, we stopped by on Sunday evening after a walk on the bayfront trail and (after the walk and the 2 hour trail run) I decided I deserved to order a big old Buffalo Chicken Wing salad (which I would not recommend ordering there...it was as salad with entire chicken wings stuck on the top ... go for the pasta or subs). Even though I didn't like the salad, there's plenty more to choose from -- their takeout menu is ridiculously huge. And, portions will feed you for a couple of days.
3. Sirrus satellite radio channels 03 and 04 -- Love and EZ Listening. I know...I know...seriously, I'm embarrassed to even type it, but...these are the sappy channels I've been stuck on lately. Hey...don't act like you don't love Barry Manilow's "Mandy" or "With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston & Syreeta, or the theme from "Mahogany" sung by Diana Ross ("Do you know where you're going to? Do You like the things that life is showing you?") :-)
Three things I'm NOT loving this week:
1. Those God-forsaken "Big Squirt" water squirter things every single brat at Splash Lagoon is walking around spraying everyone with. Took the girls to Splash on Friday for...oh....8 hours...and continually gave glares and death stares to adolescent boys who think they're funny when they squirt unsuspecting (and freezing) moms with frigid water from those stupid squirters. They try to be sly about it -- like I don't see them up in the treehouse, or ducking behind the table. I seriously wanted to yank one of those 9-year-olds down the steps and make an example of him by shoving that squirter up his...well....let's just leave it there shall we?
2. Towing companies. Husband went to the Plymouth last night and parked somewhere he shouldn't have and that's a whole 'nother discussion (don't get me started). A local towing company came along and towed his truck away. Just doing their job...sure, but...when you call to talk to them about it they act like complete jerks. I'm pretty sure that's not part of the job (though it may be a consequence of the job). And it cost $225 to get the truck back. They towed it 8 blocks. EIGHT blocks -- $225. CASH. Somebody's making a killing on that deal. And...dealing in cash is just fishy, don't you think?
3. Bugs. Now...truly, I have nothing against bugs. I'm the kind of person who takes bugs outside rather than killing them. I mean, they're kinda cute and they DO have value and a place in this world. That place is not in my house though. Unfortunately, I've given birth to a little entomologist who feels they should live in all of my Tupperware containers in her room. She must've collected 15 pill bugs in 3 minutes last night. Cute when they're all rolled up in a ball. Just creepy when you open the lid and they're all climbing all over the place. I usually convince her to let her captives go...or...I free them when their captor goes to bed.

Rollie pollies!
Be glad they're not worms, I used to play with those!!!! Mom's Tupperware containers are not the place for buggies! There was a BIG BLACK ANT on my ceiling yesterday... Should I give it to your daughter? lol.

An article or series on the "towing companies" would make a great investigative report for ETN. You should suggest it to the editors.
Just curious, was you husband's vehicle towed from a public no-parking zone, or from private property ? That may make a difference in how it is handled although your outrage is quite understandable in either case.

It was towed from a bank parking lot at 12th & State (and, yes, it was marked "no parking"...so, yes, he was wrong), but...what I want to know is who polices the lot at 8 p.m.?
I doubt anyone from the bank called it in (though it's possible there was a bank manager there working late or something). So...who decided to tow the truck. The towing company claims it's "not even their contract." Not sure what that even means.
And, what's with the "cash only." I understand not taking checks, but...what's wrong with a credit card? That offers some assurance if some damage was done to the car (but, perhaps that's exactly why they don't take Visa).
The kicker is that was $225 and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. Truth is...if the truck had broke down and that company had towed the truck from 12th & State to our home...15 miles away...it would've be $90. Tow it 8 blocks -- $225.
Somebody's making a fortune on our misfortune (and, yes, he parked somewhere he shouldn't have...trust me...we won't ever do that again even if "everyone else does").
