the wife will clean the hell out of the house.
My husband was at fishing camp all weekend and I could hardly wait for him to leave so I could clean the whole house and have it STAY THAT WAY until Sunday evening.
No whiskers in the bathroom sink, no toast crumbs on the counter, no jacket hanging on the kitchen chair, no giant muddy work boots to trip over....
Now...I love my husband and I'm grateful to have a good one (seriously, he is a good one), but...living with ANYONE means sharing space and eventually annoying each other.
I like things nice, clean and orderly. It makes me feel peaceful.
My husband does a pretty good job of keeping his stuff together, but details are lost on him. Like, he'll clean the whole kitchen and leave crumbs all over the counter (hello?).
So, my guilty pleasure -- when my husband goes out of town for a weekend -- is to clean the house until it sparkles and wash, fold and put away every single piece of laundry and enjoy my clean, orderly house -- if only for a day or two before he comes home, takes off his muddy boots, throws his coat on the kitchen chair, makes a sandwich and shaves and says "ah....it's good to be home."
Tell me I'm not alone. Am I alone? Anyone else out there get as excited about a clean house as me? (I know there's at least one, right, M.L.?).

About that... I have the whole teenager thing down pat... Yeah... my dad was so upset with my messy room that he cleaned it the other day... HOWEVER, other people with messy houses bug me at times... Hypocritical much?

Yeah - I too have gone on the cleaning rampages while the husband is away at camp! When he would leave the day after Thanksgiving, I would stay up until the wee hours of Saturday morning shining up the house. By Saturday afternoon, I could sit back and marvel at my work - and for the next entire week too - until his return. Of course, when he walks in, the laundry bag of stinky hunting clothes is in front of the washer and everything else is EVERYWHERE! Ah, is November here yet??

It is completely wonderful to get your house all cleaned and hope it stays that way for 24 hours. Of course, other people are like that, aren't they? It's such a good feeling. It's like having a to do list and being able to cross a bunch of stuff off of it.
