Getting two little girls ready for school and out the door in the a.m. is proving to be the monumental challenge I thought it would (hmmm....which makes me wonder if that isn't some sort of self-fulfilling prophesy...you know things becoming what I expect them to be, but...I digress.).
I was thinking this weekend that I need to find a way to get a little help from the girls -- set expectations for them to get their own breakfast (both are capable of toasting a bagel or pouring a bowl of cereal) and dressing themselves.
So, imagine my glee when I went upstairs to get my Kindergartner out of bed this morning and she was already up and getting herself dressed.
Sweet.
Then she opened the door.
And it was all I could do not to laugh out loud and to, instead, praise her up and down (encouraging good behavior!).
She was wearing thick cotton winter tights (inside out and twisted so the heels were on top of her foot). The tights were light pink with multicolored, fuzzy polka dots on them. Over the tights she wore a hot pink knit sundress -- two sizes too big -- and her black patent leather Easter shoes. She completed the look with a teal-colored headband.
Yes, she was a sight. (I'm still kicking myself for not taking a picture). But, I acted like it was the most beautiful outfit any kid had ever put together. And, honestly,.she can go to school every single day looking like Punky Brewster for all I care.

Like my wise friend, Lisa, always says -- "you have to ask yourself if that's the hill you're going to die on."
Her private parts are is covered (thanks to a barrette clipping the sundress straps together in the back...thereby making them shorter)...she's not hurting anyone...she's got shoes on. I'm good.
