Not sure what to buy for the little ones on your list?
Here are the top 10 toys/gifts my kids love and continue to get the most use out of. (5 today, 5 tomorrow).
Keep in mind that I have girls, so...my list skews toward the girly side, but most of these gifts have unisex appeal.
1. Little People play sets. From the farm to the airplane to the A to Z Learning Zoo and the Nativity Set, my kids have been playing with these for years. My five-year-old has one on her list for this year -- the new "Dance & Twirl Palace." Heck, they go over to my mother's and play with the Little People play sets I played with as a child.
2. Fisher-price LP3 Player. This is a pricey gift considering you can pick up off-brand MP3 players for $20 now, but...this player is cool for a few reasons: First, you can add any kind of music to it, so...it grows with your child (from nursery rhymes to the Sugarland CD that is now on my daughter's FP3 player. Second, it's nearly indestructible. Third, you can program each song with a custom symbol...which is important for kids who can't read to help them find the song they're looking for.
3. Art supplies. Particularly, Crayola acrylic paints, paintbrushes, watercolors, paper, doodle pads, colored pencils, stencils, stampers and other craft supplies.
4. Webkinz. They are the "Beanie Babies" of the 2000s, but I can honestly say that my kids play with them on a daily basis. This is true of almost all their stuffed animals (and collectively, they have enough to fill a bedroom), but the Webkinz have the added feature of a whole "online world" which, I have to admit, is kinda fun.

5. Books. You really can never go wrong with books and it's easy to pick them out since the reading ages/levels are printed right on the front of the book. If you're overhwelmed, go with the classics that you remember from your own childhood — "Frog and Toad," "Ramona," "Amelia Bedelia," etc. They are loved as much today as they were back then...even when kids have no idea what it means to "draw the drapes" (let alone what "drapes" are).

I personally will put in a good word for art supplies... EMBRACE the creativity... All children are artists... The real test is remaining an artist once you've grown.
