I've given up on making New Year's resolutions in the past few years. I mean, sure, I always want to lose 5 pounds or be nicer to my husband, but...I usually blow those two resolutions in the first week ("Seriously, Dan, if I have to pick up one more of your water bottles, I'm going to shove it up ...).
But, then, inspired by some blogs/articles I read, I starting thinking about making a resolution I will want to keep. What positive thing do I want to do/change/start?
Staring at the pile of books next to my treadmill this morning, it hit me. I want to read more. I want to actually make it through a few of the 11 books I have currently started, but can never find time to finish (yes, ELEVEN books in various locations around the house -- everything from Obama's "The Audacity of Hope" to "Raising Siblings Without Rivalry" to "The Adventures of the Thunderbolt Kid" and Jerome Bettis' "My Life In and Out of a Helmet.")
In order to carve out the time to read, I'm prepared to give up 10 p.m. television. There's nothing good on then anyway...just all those ridiculous murder shows.
I don't mean to watch them anyway. I'm usually sitting on the couch with a magazine or my laptop or some other work. But, next thing you know, I'm staring slack-jawed at the TV.
Now, I'll just go to my bedroom and read. The husband will probably take offense, but...I seriously don't consider sitting in front of the television quality couple time anyway.
And, heck, he may decide to join me and reduce that pile of magazines next to his chair, too.
I'm fully aware this probably means I'll be dead asleep with my face in a book by 10:20 p.m., but..hey...if nothing else, I'll be more rested, right?
Happy New Year everyone. Be safe.
