Three things — 12/11/08

Three things I'm loving this week:

1. L.L. Bean Visa card. This is one credit card worth having because it gets you free shipping, free monogramming, free return shipping and shopping rewards. I bought a gift for my sister-in-law in Atlanta, a gift for a nephew and a gift for...well, myself...and had them all monogrammed and shipped to three different addresses -- for free! And, I got a $10 gift card for spending more than $50. So...with that gift card burning a hole in my hand, I went back on last night and bought another gift for ... well, me again. I've been a very good girl this year.

BTW — The extra large boat tote I bought for myself (below) was just $30! You might be wondering what I plan to do with a bag so big I can carry a body in it. Well...it will be perfect for lugging all those presents over to the parent's on Christmas, perfect for lugging all our beach gear, camping gear, etc., etc. Word to the wise...if you gift yourself with one of these, go for the extra long handles so you can sling it over your shoulder -- parents always need free hands.

2. Kid's holiday performances. Is there anything cuter than a hundred little kids on stage? It's endlessly entertaining -- one kids is poking another, a least a couple kids start picking their nose, somebody falls down, someone forgets their lines, someone screams their lines ...it's all way more entertaining than anything on Broadway.

3. Free weights. I have been taking a woman's weight training class at the Eastside Y, and I love it. I'd never have set foot in that free weight room before -- it's intimidating ...all those big muscle-bound men grunting and sweating. But, once you know your way around, it's kind fun. It's also a great workout and...the grunting sweaty guys aren't so scary afterall.

Three things I'm not loving this week:

1. Christmas cookies, candies and all the other tempting treats. I'm going into this holiday season with five extra pounds (she types as she throws a few more Reese's Pieces into her mouth...damn boss and her candy bowl).

2. Christmas decorating. I just cannot get up the motivation (or find free time in our schedule) to drag all the stuff up from the basement despite the almost constant whining of two young girls begging to get out the decorations. Heck, I just got around to putting away my summer clothes and getting out the winter clothes last Saturday.

3. People who try to hit me while running. Yes, believe it or not, this is something that really sticks in my craw -- people who deliberately try to kill me. I realize it's early in the morning, it's dark and I am apparently annoying the hell out of you for running on the side of the road, but...I am not out there to ruin your day. I'm trying to start mine off right. So turn off the high beams and give me a few inches of running room...that's all I ask.

In reference to hate #3...

I busted out laughing when reading that... Just the way you said it... It was so funny! I do give you credit for going out every morning... Lot's and lots of credit!! I walked all summer long and pretty far into the fall... but once the snow hit, I was like "BOO HISS!" So as bad as it is for one's knees... I'm sporting the treadmill again... Kudos to you for being out there in the early AM... That's dedication!
